The Journey of a Pet Portrait
To start with, I ask for lots of photographs of your pet so I can help you decide which would make the best drawing (and because I love to see them) Seeing lots of photos and talking to you about your pet helps me see what kind of personality they have, I try to capture this in my drawing.
Once we have decided on the reference photograph, we can decide how big you'd like the drawing to be and the overall composition.
Next up, the hard work begins! I start with an outline drawing so I can make sure it sits nicely on the page and nothing will be lost when it is framed. Then I can start to add colour and bring the drawing to life. The drawing usually takes somewhere between 20-40 hours, depending on the size. I will give you an idea of when it will be finished and update you if anything changes. Of course, if you have a specific date in mind, I will make sure to have it with you in good time.
I usually like to wait to send photographs once the drawing is finished as it keeps it a surprise, but if you'd like updates throughout please let me know!
Once I have finished I will make sure you are happy and if there are any amendments you'd like me to make, I will do those before sending the final piece.
Next up, is framing! Unlike most artists, I do my own framing too. We can discuss not only what frame would complement the drawing, but also ensure that it will suit the space in which it will be hanging.
You can choose to have the drawing sent unframed if you'd prefer.
Once you have your drawing, I'd love to see it hanging in its new home 😊
